About Me

I’m a Hawai’i-born, Filipino-American animation professional based in New York and working primarily in 2D since 2009. I’m an alumnus of the Pratt Institute and am heavily influenced by comics, cinema, kung fu and classic illustration.

While I’ve worked on shows for a variety of demographics, I’m most at home when I’m exploring the sophisticated color palettes and dynamic lighting on adult-oriented action shows.

In addition to my experience as a designer and painter, I am also a seasoned manager; whether as a Lead Background Designer (CBS/Showtime’s “Our Cartoon President”), or Art Director (Paramount+’s “Stephen Colbert Presents Tooning Out The News”) I have experience in hiring and managing onsite artists and remote freelancers, creating key art and various promotional and social media material, and meeting deliverable deadlines.

In 2024 I was selected to be part of the inaugural class for the Titmouse Foundation’s “Future Art Directors” program, which further refined my production-oriented skills in style guide creation, script/animatic breakdown, and color scripting, and reinforced the need for soft skills like interdepartmental communication and conflict resolution.

When I’m not working, I can be found writing/drawing/reading comics, obsessing over movies on Letterboxd, or playing the piano. If I’m back in Hawai’i, I’ll be trying (and likely failing) to surf.

I’ve lately tried to make all of my career decisions with this key phrase in mind:

Make cool shit with cool people.

If that also applies to you, drop me a line at toddakmcarthur(at)gmail(dot)com and let’s make some cool shit!
